MTN Transfer Airtime is a service that allows you to transfer airtime from your MTN account to another MTN subscriber. You can transfer airtime using USSD, SMS, or the MTN App.

How To Transfer Airtime On MTN Network
There are two ways to transfer airtime on the MTN network: using USSD and SMS.
Using USSD
- Dial **321 on your phone.
- Enter the recipient’s MTN number.
- Enter the amount of airtime you want to transfer.
- Enter your MTN transfer PIN.
- Press #.
Using SMS
- Send an SMS to 777 with the following format:
Transfer [Recipient's Number] [Amount] [PIN]
For example, to transfer NGN 500 to the number 08031234567, you would send the following SMS:
Transfer 08031234567 500 1234
Fees
There is a fee of NGN 10 for each airtime transfer. This fee is deducted from the sender’s airtime balance.
Limits
The minimum amount you can transfer is NGN 50 and the maximum amount is NGN 5,000. You can transfer up to NGN 10,000 in a day.
Tips
- Make sure you have enough airtime balance to cover the transfer fee.
- Check the recipient’s MTN number carefully before you send the transfer.
- If you are not sure how to use the USSD code, you can visit the MTN website or call their customer care line.
MTN Shares Airtime
MTN Share Airtime is a service that allows you to share airtime with other MTN subscribers. You can share airtime in two ways:
- USSD: Dial 321Recipient’s NumberAmountPIN# and press Send. For example, to share NGN 1,000 airtime with the number 08034567890, you would dial 3210803456789010001234# and press Send.
- SMS: Send an SMS with the following format to 321:
Transfer <Recipient's Number> <Amount> <PIN>
For example, to send an SMS to share NGN 1,000 airtime with the number 08034567890, you would send an SMS with the following content to 321:
Transfer 08034567890 1000 1234
Note: The amount you can share is between NGN 50 and NGN 5,000. You will also be charged a service fee of NGN 10 for each airtime transfer.
To activate MTN Share Airtime, you need to change your default PIN. The default PIN is 0000. To change your PIN, send an SMS with the following format to 777:
0000 <New PIN> <New PIN>
For example, to change your PIN to 1234, you would send an SMS with the following content to 777:
0000 1234 1234
Once you have changed your PIN, you can start sharing airtime with other MTN subscribers.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when sharing airtime with MTN Share:
- The recipient of the airtime must be an MTN subscriber.
- The airtime will be valid for 30 days.
- If the recipient does not use the airtime within 30 days, it will expire.

Via SMS
- Send an SMS with the following format to the designated short code:
- Default PIN New PIN New PIN
- For example, to change your PIN from 0000 to 1234, you would send an SMS with the following content:
0000 1234 1234
to 321.
- You will receive an SMS confirmation once your PIN has been successfully changed.
Via USSD
- Dial the USSD code for changing or generating a transfer PIN. The code may vary depending on your mobile network operator.
- Enter your default PIN.
- Enter your new PIN.
- Enter your new PIN again to confirm.
- You will receive an SMS confirmation once your PIN has been successfully changed.
Via the mobile app
- Open the mobile app of your mobile network operator.
- Go to the Transfer or Airtime section.
- Tap on Change PIN or Generate PIN.
- Enter your default PIN.
- Enter your new PIN.
- Enter your new PIN again to confirm.
- Tap on Change or Generate.
- You will receive an SMS confirmation once your PIN has been successfully changed.
Note:
- The default PIN is usually 0000.
- Your new PIN must be a 4-digit number.
- You should not share your PIN with anyone.
- If you forget your PIN, you can reset it by following the instructions above.
